SAFE incorporated as Rape Crisis Intervention (RCI) in 1987.\u00a0 RCI changed its name to Sexual Assault Family Emergency (SAFE) in 1989, when it began providing services to victims of domestic violence. SAFE\u2019s shelter opened in 1995.<\/p>\n<p>SAFE is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, and is managed day-to-day by agency staff.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #028482;\"><strong>Mission<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The mission of SAFE is to provide safety and serve as an advocate for sexual assault and domestic violence victims, survivors and their families.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #028482;\"><strong>Vision<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>SAFE is committed to serving victims and survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence through advocacy, empowerment and education.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #028482;\"><strong>Values<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We believe that battering is more than physical abuse.\u00a0 It is a pattern of coercive behavior enforced by violence in which all parts of a victim\u2019s life are subject to the batterer\u2019s control.\u00a0 In addition to physical abuse, such coercive behavior includes sexual, emotional, and economic abuse.\u00a0 We believe that domestic violence and sexual assault can only be stopped by working with victims to help promote healing and with perpetrators to promote change (intervention), helping systems work effectively to increase safety for victims and hold perpetrators accountable (advocacy) and creating a community that supports peaceful families and healthy relationships (prevention).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>History SAFE of Harnett County, Inc., is a private, non-profit organization that provides safety and advocacy for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
